The worry of anxiety
Anxiety is the fear and worry about things that have not happened. Often we actually know that we are worrying about things that probably will never happen, and that makes the anxiety all the more annoying because deep down we know that it is sapping our energy and giving nothing beneficial in return.
We get this ridiculous idea that if we worry about something happening we are in some way warding it off--- driving it away, almost as if we are saying ”I’ve seen you so you can’t creep up and scare me”.
Logically we might try to explain this “worrying” habit as preparation—“If I think about what might happen I can prepare for it”. That is a perfectly rational thing to do with events or occurrences that really might happen, but to apply that to every little thing in life is exhausting, time wasting and it gets in the way of solving real problems.
With hypnosis you can be helped to take a step back, to evaluate these worries, to recognise the real threats in your life and to deal with them better and also to recognise the malicious thoughts that just bog you down in the bad habit of worrying for its own sake.
You may have noticed I have used the word habit twice in this short piece, that is to give you the clue to solving your anxiety problems. Habitual behaviour whether it be nail biting, avoiding the cracks in the pavement or always saying sorry when someone bumps into you gets ingrained in our being, it is an unconscious reaction ; simply recognising and understanding that point is the beginning of sorting out the problem.
If anxiety is taking up your energy and hijacking your time it is time to get rid of that habit, a hypnotherapist can help you break the habit and be more effective in your daily thinking. Call me and make an appointment, that is a first, positive step, towards being free from anxiety.
